After months of preparation and meeting after meeting by the centenary committee it was occasion to remember for years to come for our club on Saturday 3rd August. First up in the afternoon in Towney were the challenge matches involving players from the parish who are living elsewhere and players with family connections to the parish with the ladies match at 1pm and the men’s at 2:45pm with underage matches held before and during half time during the matches. It was a hugely enjoyable day and enjoyed by those involved and the large crowd who were watching and along with the other events there it was a great afternoon for all who attended.
The evening/night in The Blue Haven was a full house with people traveling from all over the world to attend, the old memorabilia exhibition was a wonderful display of our history, the speeches by the official guests Uachtarán GAA Jarleth Burns, Rúnaí Chomhairle Uladh Brian McAvoy and Cathaoirleach Dun nan Gall Mary Coughlin were excellent as was the centenary video, thanks to the MC Austin O’Callaghan for this professional approach to proceedings, to Declan Dal, Paul Hegarty, Charlie O’Donnell and Danny Gillespie for the work on the centenary video, to Terrance and the staff of The Blue Haven for hosting the event so professionally, to the centenary committee for their hard work over the months to get this all together, to the photographer Alan Hennigan, to all who displayed club memorabilia and finally to anyone who helped in any way and there were so many to thank and we are grateful for your help.
