Welcome to our new look website where you will find club history, fixtures / results, facts, stats, updates, old club, county and other GAA programmes.

Formed in 1924 in Cill Chartha (Kilcar) a small rural parish in Co Dun na nGall, we are celebrating our centenary this year, with two major events taking place in March and August and a book celebrating our history to be launched later in the year.

The first recorded game was played on the beach in 1921 which was a inter townland match between “Up the Glen” and Muckross. The first official match played in Towney was between Ard na Ratha and “South of the County”. The first club match was played on November 9th 1924 against Ballyshannon in Towney with the visitors winning 1-03 to 0-02. Over the following decades the club have achieved success at all age levels and took part in the senior championships until 1967-69 when the club had to join forces with neighbouring parishes in order to field senior teams, the revival started when the club dropped to junior football in 1968 and three years later they won that championship and were back in the senior football championship in 1972 where they have remained ever since winning it five times, and with the under 21s winning three in a row in the early 70s this was the backbone of things to come and the success of the 1980s where we had three strong senior sides competing in all competitions in fact we were the first club in the county to have a third team!.  In ten short years after winning the junior championship our second team reached the junior championship final in 1981 and three years later they reached the intermediate final where they were narrowly defeated such was the strength of football in the parish.

In 1993 our ladies team was formed and last year they picked up the Junior B championship and the Division Three league title.

Located in the Donegal Gaeltacht in South West Donegal and our grounds are on the Wild Atlantic Way, the club is at the heart of this rural Gaeltacht community.

We have provided players to the county teams over the course of our history with 20 different players making county Ulster championship appearances. That’s not counting players who represented the county at league and underage level a remarkable achievement for the size of our parish!

Towney GAA grounds are set in one of the most beautiful locations in the country and are regularity photographed and visited by GAA enthusiasts from near and far!

Along with sport we also have a rich tradition of music and song in the parish and it’s now as strong as ever with young people learning instruments and Irish traditional songs.

We host the Comortas Peile na Gaeltacht in 2026 (delayed two years due to COVID) which will be the second time in the clubs history with the last one held in 2004.

Sna blianta ina dhiaidh sin tá rath bainte amach ag an gclub ag gach leibhéal aoise agus ghlac siad páirt sna craobhacha sinsir go dtí 1967-69 nuair a bhí ar an gclub dul i gcomhar le paróistí comharsanachta ar mhaithe le foirne sinsir a chur chun páirce, thosaigh an athbheochan nuair a thit an club go sóisir. peile i 1968 agus trí bliana ina dhiaidh sin bhuaigh siad an chraobh sin agus bhí siad ar ais sa chraobh shinsir peile i 1972 áit a bhfuil siad fós ó shin i leith a bhuaigh sé cúig huaire, agus leis na faoi 21s a bhuaigh trí i ndiaidh a chéile go luath sna 70í ba é seo an cnámh droma rudaí le teacht agus rath na 1980í áit a raibh trí fhoireann shinsir láidir san iomaíocht i ngach comórtas go deimhin bhíomar ar an gcéad chlub sa chontae le tríú foireann a bheith againn!.

Tá tailte CLG Towney suite i gceann de na láithreacha is áille sa tír agus glacann díograiseoirí CLG ó chian is ó chian grianghraif orthu agus tugann siad cuairt orthu go rialta!
